Benjamin Franklin once said that when you’re finished changing, you’re finished. St. Tammany Parish is continually changing, developing and growing—and so, too, is our Chamber. November 11, 2019 is the day that our Chamber membership held a formal meeting in accordance with our bylaws and voted to change the name of St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce to the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce.
Much effort was put forth for many years to reach this milestone. Discussions were held at the board table and in one-on-one conversations with small business owners, businesses and elected leaders across the parish, including mayors, CEOs and bankers. Everything culminated in the creation of one Chamber of Commerce representing all businesses in St. Tammany Parish.
That day also represents the beginning, the first step in the transitional process to build a solid foundation for all businesses to be heard and welcome. There is strength in numbers, and a unified voice on issues such as transportation, transparency, collaboration, education and quality of life overall will be more effectively heard.
Our new, single parish Chamber’s goals include becoming more closely aligned and taking action steps toward more unity in our parish. This is right for the region and right for the parish. First and foremost, our mission remains the same: to promote and support businesses by being the resource of choice to the community, to empower businesspeople to build a community where businesses can thrive and citizens are proud to live. Renovations have just been completed on a new office in Olde Town Slidell and we will be moving in by mid-May to welcome and serve East St. Tammany businesses. The office, located at 2220 Carey Street, will open when allowed by government guidelines.
We look forward to building a solid foundation and continuing trusted relationships while supporting businesses across St. Tammany. To our current and long-term member investors, thank you for providing the strong foundation to our standards of excellence. To our future members, we look forward to your becoming active, engaged members of the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce. Our Chamber is no different than any not-for-profit business organization; the product is a result of the input of its members, so we encourage your membership and your involvement as we shape what the new St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce will look like for decades to come.
