Cocktails! Four for the Fourth

Celebrate the 4th of July all summer long with these patriotic potions that will keep you cool by the pool. These icy and spicy favorites will turn any backyard get-together or barbecue into a full-on party!

America the Bluetiful – ¾ ounce vodka ¾ ounce spiced rum 1 ounce blue curaçao 2 ounces pineapple juice 1 lemon wedge Pineapple wedge and cherry for garnish. Combine vodka, rum, blue curaçao and pineapple juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Squeeze lemon wedge into shaker. Shake until chilled and pour into a rocks glass. Add ice to fill glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a cherry.

Liberty & Libations for All – 1¼ cup watermelon juice 2 ounces white rum 6-8 fresh mint leaves 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice ¼ cup blueberries Sparkling water In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add watermelon juice, rum, lime juice and half of the mint. Shake well, pour into a tall glass and top off with sparkling water. Garnish with remaining mint and add blueberries.

Boom Boom Pow! – 2 ounces blanco tequila 1 jalapeño, sliced into small rounds 4 ounces orange juice 1 tablespoon grenadine syrup Put tequila and jalapeños in a cocktail shaker and light muddle with a spoon to release some of the oils and spice. Add the orange juice and shake. Strain into salt-rimmed glass. Slowly pour in the grenadine and let it settle to the bottom. Garnish with a lime and some jalapeño slices.

Red, White and Boozey – 1 ounce grenadine 3 ounces lemonade 1 ounce vodka 1 ounce blue curaçao Add grenadine to a glass filled with ice. In a shaker, shake lemonade and vodka then gently pour the mixture over the back of a spoon into the glass creating the white layer of the drink. Cascade blue curaçao over the back of a spoon to make the final blue layer.
