In From The Cold

Written by:

The cold, winter months can be brutal for the animals of Northshore Humane Society. Not only are there fewer volunteers and donations, but there are far less adoptions at this time of year as well. While our animal care staff does everything they can to prepare our pets for the icy weather, they cannot give them the one thing they desperately need—your love. Extra blankets and toys are passed out and their outside kennel doors are closed so they may sleep in the heated building, but all they truly want is a soft, warm place to call home for the holidays. Most dogs, especially our southern pups, are not biologically able to withstand the extreme cold of winter. Winter can even exacerbate existing medical issues such as arthritis, so be sure to get a check-up annually. Most importantly, remember that dogs and cats are social by nature. They truly thrive in a home environment, surrounded by a family.

If you are looking for an addition to your family this winter, come see the wonderful dogs and cats just waiting to meet you! We’ve even got the perfect mega adoption event for you to do just that. Saturday, December 7, from 10 am to 3 pm, the adoptable animals of NHS will be at Baldwin Subaru in Covington for our annual Share the Love adoption event. It’s the perfect setting for you to find your favorite new family member with live music by Christian Serpas, food by Smokin Buddha BBQ, a holiday bake sale, pictures with Santa and more. Consider opening your home to a helpless shelter pet this season, and bring them in from the cold!
