Remembering Paul Cimino

Written by:

IT WAS WITH great sadness that we learned of the passing of our friend and contributor, Salvatore “Paul” Cimino. Paul, as he was known to us, wrote our foodies column for many years, and we enjoyed his interesting stories and delicious recipes. Paul loved sharing his passion for Italian food with our readers. He was a true renaissance man, with a long and distinguished career. Paul was a Korean War veteran who spoke four languages; a professional opera singer who performed with opera companies in New York, Atlanta, and New Orleans; and an actor who performed in many movies, including A Streetcar Named Desire. Throughout his journalism career, Paul wrote about many subjects and interviewed many celebrities. His talents were many: hair and make-up artist to the stars, teacher of languages and culinary arts and community volunteer. Paul volunteered at The St. Tammany Parish Library and Lakeshore Regional Medical Center. He was the first recipient of the Salvatore “Paul” Cimino Award, named in his honor, for exemplary volunteer service to the St. Tammany Parish Library. Paul will be missed greatly by his family, friends and the Sophisticated Woman Magazine staff.
