Northshore Humane Society: Go Take A Hike

Written by:

As we move into 2021 and begin thinking about New Year’s resolutions, Northshore Humane Society wants you to know owning a pet can have several health advantages. That’s right – owning a dog or cat helps support both your mental and physical well-being! According to an article published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress and bring happiness to their owners.” Here are some ideas to get you and your pup moving this New Year!

Go For A Hike: St. Tammany Parish has several state parks and nature centers with great walking and hiking trails!

Take A Walk Downtown: Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville are lined with sidewalks and beautiful sites like the Riverfront or the Lakefront.

Volunteer for NHS: Our rescue has several physical volunteer activities that also help homeless animals! Activities like our Scoop and Play assignment and our Canine Cabbies program allow a shelter pup healthy enrichment while getting you off the couch!

Felines also come with several health benefits including lowered stress and anxiety levels, improvement in cardiovascular health and reduced feelings of loneliness just to name a few.

If  you’re ready to add a furry family member to your home, we have lots of amazing dogs and cats just waiting to meet you this New Year!
